Purpose of the role

A voluntary position where you will lead the CILIP North East Members Network in terms of its overall strategy and development.

Knowledge, Experience and Attributes

Essential

  • Membership of CILIP.
  • Knowledge of the information profession through work in a library, KM or related service area.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of leadership (some examples may be leading a team or a project)
  • Experience of planning and delivering events

Responsibilities

  • To coordinate the activities of CILIP North East and ensure it meets its core offer and priorities as set out in the business plan.
  • Receiving and responding to correspondence as appropriate including regularly checking the Chair email address.
  • To act as lead spokesperson for CILIP North East and where appropriate, represent the committee at CILIP meetings and external events and where necessary, organise alternative representatives.
  • To chair committee meetings and annual general meetings and be responsible for the smooth operation of meetings.
  • To work with other officers and committee members to prepare the business plan and annual report.
  • To liaise with the secretary regarding communication with committee members.
  • To liaise with the treasurer to maintain an overview of the financial position of CILIP North East
  • To be the key link between CILIP North East and CILIP to ensure professional issues relating to members in the North East region are raised and to lead CILIP North East’s contributions to CILIP initiatives and responses to policy developments.
  • To promote the membership and benefits of CILIP within the library and information profession in the North East region.

Time Commitment

  • It is anticipated that you attend all committee meetings (approx 4 per year). Most meetings are currently held online. We have an in person planning meeting each summer.
  • The amount of time this role takes up will vary and may be 1 hour per week and may increase during the planning and run up to an event or committee activity.
  • The Chair will normally be elected for two years.
